The UAE is preparing to obtain full recognition of the national measurement standards by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures in France next September, becoming the first country at the level of the Gulf Cooperation Council to unify its measurement systems with international standards.

This came within the outcomes of the meeting of the heads and secretaries of the Gulf Metrology Committees, which was hosted by the capital, Abu Dhabi, last week

His Excellency Abdullah Abdul Qadir Al-Muaini, Director General of the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology \”Specifications\”, the authority responsible for managing this file, stressed that the authority will publish its national measurement capabilities in the database of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures in France, in cooperation with the Emirates Institute of Metrology, as the first country in the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Middle East and North Africa region next September, after the country succeeded in unifying its measurement systems, thanks to its pioneering legislative structure and a national will to accomplish this transformation towards the implementation of the international system of units of measurement
Al-Muaini considered that the state’s obtaining this full recognition globally will reflect positively on the economic, production and tourism sectors, and achieve savings in cost, effort and time, and facilitate trade exchange, and support the national economy, in line with the objectives of the national agenda 2021, and the percentage of the UAE 2071, within the efforts of the UAE To lead globally in various fields

He said: The comprehensive application of the international measurement units supports the economic and productive sectors and stimulates tourism activity, by keeping pace with the state markets for the measurement units known to tourists from most of the world and thus facilitates the movement of tourists in the country with no need to convert units in products or transactions into units Other. This is something that major countries have been trying to amend for decades now, and they have not finished it

He added: The UAE will become the first country to publish national measurement capabilities in the International Bureau of Weights and Measures database in September 2020 and obtain full international recognition of national measurement standards, and that includes measurement capabilities in the areas of mass, pressure, temperature, dimensions and electrical measurements
